Pest Control in Chandler, AZ: A Fall Walk-Around for Scorpions and Termites

Pest control in Chandler, AZ this fall comes down to scorpions in block walls and termites at the foundation. A walk-around to do and when to call.

Pest control in Chandler, AZ in the fall mostly comes down to two things: bark scorpions living in block walls and subterranean termites working up from the soil at the foundation. Both can be active while the weather cools, and both are easy to miss if you only look where you last saw something. Peterson Pest Management is a family-owned team based next door in Gilbert, and we treat Chandler homes across the whole property, not just the spot where a bug showed up.

Why Chandler yards keep both pests close

A lot of Chandler is HOA-dense neighborhoods built around irrigated lawns, heavy landscaping and backyard pools. That watered landscaping is good for the yard, and it also keeps the ground soft and cool, which draws crickets and other small insects. Crickets are scorpion food, so where they gather, scorpions follow.

Chandler is also full of block walls. Bark scorpions use those walls and the weep holes built into them as a highway between yards. Meanwhile, damp soil against a foundation is exactly what subterranean termites need, since they live in the soil and travel up into wood.

A 20-minute fall walk-around

You can learn a lot about your property with one slow lap of the house. Take a phone for photos.

At the block walls

  • Weep holes and gaps at the base of the wall
  • Rock beds and landscaping pushed up against the wall
  • Woodpiles, stored pavers or debris along the wall line

At the foundation

  • Thin, pencil-width mud tubes running up the stem wall or garage wall
  • Wood mulch piled against the stucco line
  • Stucco that runs below the soil, hiding the foundation line

At doors and windows

  • Gaps under exterior doors and worn door sweeps
  • Small piles of discarded wings near windows, doors or outdoor lights

Around moisture

  • Irrigation boxes and drip lines that keep soil wet near the house
  • Pool equipment and anywhere water collects

None of these prove a problem. They tell you where to look closer.

Check the walls after dark

Bark scorpions glow blue-green under UV light, so a blacklight flashlight after dark is a simple way to see what is actually on your block wall, patio and landscaping. It will not tell you how to treat the problem, but it shows you the activity level before and after service.

What to leave alone

If you find a mud tube, take a photo and leave it in place. A hardware-store spray aimed at a tube you can see almost never reaches the colony feeding it from the soil below. The same goes for scorpions: spot spraying the one you saw does not touch the population living in the wall.

What a Peterson visit covers in Chandler

For scorpions, a standard service covers the interior, the exterior perimeter and the yard and block walls together, on a schedule that fits your property. Every visit is planned around who lives in the house, kids, dogs and cats included, and our technicians tell you what to expect before they start.

For termites, the work starts with an inspection inside and out, looking for mud tubes, swarmers, damaged wood and anything else pointing to activity. You get a straight explanation of what was found and where. If treatment is needed, it is arranged and managed on your behalf, so you have one point of contact.

A lot of termite activity is caught during a regular scorpion visit, when a technician notices a mud tube or old wings while walking the property. That is one more reason recurring service tends to catch problems earlier.

One-time or recurring

You can book a single visit as a reset or set up a recurring schedule. Recurring service usually works better in the desert because pests reload every monsoon, but there is no pressure either way.

Chandler pest control FAQ

Do scorpions slow down in Chandler in the fall?

You may see fewer, but the population living in block walls and landscaping is still there. Fall is a good time to check walls and entry points.

What does a termite mud tube look like?

A thin, pencil-width tunnel of dirt running up a stem wall, block foundation or garage wall.

Will a visit change my HOA landscaping?

No. A pest control visit treats the interior, perimeter and yard around the plants and irrigation you already have.

Do you treat around pool equipment and irrigation boxes?

Yes. Those spots are checked as part of a full-property visit.
